i just read the first notorious sorcerer and shadow baron and now i'm crazy, so thank you
(like actually you have just inspired so much world building, characters and dynamics in me so thanks but also a tiny screw you cause now i'm even more insane and screaming at my walls)
Honestly, I am so thrilled about this. Because Notorious Sorcerer started from my being inspired and crazy and screaming a million things I loved at the walls of a little story I didn't think would ever really have an audience beyond me and the person I wrote that story for.
That it's now inspiring you in turn is immense to me. It's wonderful. It is everything that a piece of art should be. And so I am delighted, I am screeching victory at the moon, and I am very much encouraging you to scream, and to shape, and to write your own amazing inspired words down. Because that too is art.

"Irredeemable Media" lists are incredibly funny because it's typically just "[literal baby show], [literal baby show], [media I've never watched and only have it on here cause I dislike a fandom trend], and [literal baby show]"
The subject matter of who gets called Irredeemable Media is pretty interesting (especially when you ask why Steven Universe or Undertale or other implicitly or explicitly progressive stuff gets marked but not shit like Family Guy or South Park which frequently do pretty sketchy stuff), but I think I'm also fascinated with the question of why it is. 'Cos looking at stuff like that list, I think there's basically four categories for why the carrd carriers would call stuff irredeemable.
It is a Literal Baby Show or something equally milquetoast/okay/apolitical but it was made in the late '90s or early 2000s so there's something kind of sketchy in there. And instead of leaving it as a historical curiosity that you handle responsibly and critically a la "hey isn't it kind of fucked up that in early Scooby Doo you could just have the gang run into a bunch of Native Americans who wear feather caps and speak broken english that wouldn't fly today" they toss the baby out with the bathwater. Maybe poor taste acts like wine in that it festers over time and a faux pas, given enough time, turns into They Murdered My Family.
It's okay but made with the expectation that a mature audience will handle it and not a terminally anxious teenager so "here is a fucked up thing I have enough faith in you to understand that this is fucked up" gets construed as "oh my god they're just endorsing it".
A variant of 2 and 3 where it's explicitly progressive, made by and for gay people, or something similarly Really Above Board, but the terminally anxious teenager in this case operates under some sort of moon logic or has impossibly high standards but only for progressive and queer people I wonder why that lets them see "groundbreakingly progressive work of fiction that raises the bar for the entire industry and spurred a positive personal or political journey for thousands" as "nazi propaganda".
Variant of 1 and 3 where there's literally nothing here to get mad at but mind-meltinginly eldritch and esoteric discourse has caused some sort of warping to occur. This is rare I think but it's the only explanation for a Bizarre Take I once saw, where someone played Yume Nikki, did a "Madotsuki as a trans man" reading, interpreted the game as being transphobic in light of this reading, and then accused the creator of being transphobic even though 100% of that legwork was entirely on the person doing the reading.
#ask and receive#oh no renardie is posting#also just clarifying that there's nothing ridiculous about the Madotsuki As A Trans Man reading#because Yume Nikki is open-ended enough that literally anything could be true and there's evidence backing up#do not ask me about my personal theory that Madotsuki is a simultaneously closeted lesbian and Ronald Reagan stan

hey, just stopping by to ask for advice. our session's Space player died, Land's dead, all that, but we can't find their pendant and frog breeding isn't done yet. Running theory is that it's in the Underworld somewhere, as our Seer (Seer of Hope) has something of a hunch (his hunches are pretty reliable and it's better than nothing, also, see ahead).
Thing is, the angels are still mucking about down there, haven't left for some reason. First party sent down there fled in a hurry because those things are MAD. Not sure if our Space player was in cahoots with them or this is just a weird glitch, but they aren't leaving and are extremely violent towards anything that isn't one of them. We think they're clustering around the corpse.
We've tried luring them out by drawing aggro of one or two at a time, scattering them with explosives, and we've managed to kill a couple but this is about as far from ideal as it gets, short of the pendant being dropped into the Forge or something.
Any tips for dealing with this? We can't progress until we get the pendant, and none of us have the stealth or firepower to get it back alone.
Session members: Grace of Space, Seer of Hope, Thief of Might (me), Dame of Flow, Smith of Time, Sylph of Dreams.
In the interest of satisfying your query, I'll answer assuming the Pendant is in fact in the Underworld. The only sidenote before beginning is just a "final double check" of sorts. Even if your resident huncher is generally reliable, "a hunch" is far from conclusive. If "a hunch" is how he (mis)understands or conceptualizes his Seer abilities, then fine. But the majority of final deaths are the result of players trying to do a "solo act" and ending up not having back-up when they needed it. Final messages over chat or in person, notes left in their house, disconcerting behavior, did any evidence point towards them going anywhere but the Underworld? If so, you don't need to go in there. If not, then carry on.
The Angels sticking in the Underworld is indeed unusual behavior. Final death usually results in the "cardiac arrest" of the Heart of the Land (AKA the fake underground sun stops working), and since the Angels are attracted to the Heart, they usually disperse and eventually despawn like everything does in a Dead Land. If the Heart is still active, that's very strong evidence your Grace of Space is alive and your Seer of Hope's dumb hunches are dumb. It could also be a glitch but "it's a glitch" is kind of the coward answer and you shouldn't rely on "things bad because bugs" unless you're truly slamming your head against a wall. Sometimes things are weird.
If the Angels aren't leaving, option one is make them. The fact that you implied you've been able to kill any is impressive, so worst comes to worst, apply cranium directly to brick structure. But the game has a built-in mechanism for it. Sneak in there, but instead of beelining for where you think the body is, go for the underground temples and ruins. Then start smashing stuff. Make bombs to expedite the process. If your vandalism is accompanied with the dying screeches of Angels, that means things are working and you need to keep it up.
If that truly isn't working, then it looks like the only other option is in fact "do the same things you were doing, but better", AKA brick meet skull. You did make the mistake of implying that violence is an option, albeit a shitty and ineffective one. Fortunately, I think there's still a better option, but unfortunately you made another mistake by telling me your Title. You're a Thief, a selfish class very geared towards stealth. And your Aspect is Might, which not only bolsters attempts to face problems head-on but outright grows stronger the more adversity they face. I'm sorry, but you're the ideal candidate for this mission, and it's a mission you're going to have to take alone. Make plans with everyone, treat it like a heist, alchemize whatever sneaking, evasion, and extraction gear you need. Gain advisory from your Seer of Hope and any tech support from the Smith of Time you can. And then plunge in there. If this is some fucked-up variant of an Angry Land, the Angels should calm down once you touch the Pendant.
Upsides, your RP Value is going to skyrocket if you pull this off. Downsides, do not think of them. It's either this, heavier artillery, making sure the Pendant isn't in there, or waiting for your Session to die.
ALSO MORE "FINAL DRASTIC MEASURES" IN CASE THE PENDANT ISN'T THERE OR YOU END UP DYING (unlikely!)
The idea that the Pendant got dropped in the Forge is pretty silly. Ignoring how that's a suicidally bad decision, even getting into a position where you could do that (or begin thinking about it) is pretty unlikely. If that is the case though, just find a way to become immune to lava, simple as.
If the Pendant is just flat-out missing (unlikely!), you could just perform the Space player's duties. You'll suck at them, because you don't intuitively understand how it works, but that's all ownership of the Pendant does. Transfer intuitive knowledge of how to perform duties. Granted, doing a half-assed job of Frog-Breeding is pretty bad, but better than no ass.
Did you check the Skaian Magicant? Also a dumb place to leave a Pendant, but "my seer blindly guessed it was in the underworld" still sounds stupid (and unlikely!) and there's a non-0% chance their "hunch" got scrambled in transit to the Magicant (because scrambling things is what the Magicant does), so check there.
If none of the above works and your session is well and truly fucked, deal with it. Try making a deal with one of your Denizens, Scratch the session, hop inside of a battleship and fling yourself into the Furthest Ring to personally shake my hand and say "hey I'm a fuck-up too". The most unlikely of the unlikelys, but things sounds pretty grim over there. Just assume this is wild doomerposting unless every single other option has been shut down.

So, I'm really sorry, but "falling down the stairs" is not a euphemism for death. It comes up quite often as accepted fact within the One Piece community (cause like literally why would anyone check, plus, within the context of Kuina, it makes sense), however, looking it up, the only things that turn up are One Piece reddit posts. Kuina's death emphasizes mainly the fact that at any given moment anyone one of us could just die, that human life is so, so fragile no matter the will of the person.
Thank you for the correction.
I actually got quite a few of these. I asked one of the most knowledgeable OP fans I know (@chromatic-lamina ) and got the same answer. So turns out that's just a myth.
I still hold that if makes more sense that Kuina died for falling, say, during a fight. Its easy to see how they could wind up in a fight, maybe because he thinks she's too old to continue kendo, and for that to messs her up, taking a bad backwards step.....
And yes, it could be an entirely random coincidence and for some people, that will be the preferable answer. That her death was senseless and arose from nothing.
But the fact that she is shown, in all media, to have learned that she could never be the best, that her dream is out of reach and seems to play a bigger part in her character.
And OP isn't exactly known for it's random coincidences that have nothing to do with fate.
So I would say a lot of what I spoke about, how Kuina may have developed the idea that she could never achieve her dream, that it is pure biology and nothing could change it. Kind of like how Mamo-chan is the ONLY person who could truly rule Wano even though it meant sacrificing his childhood. How the 100s of women when Sanji were all ridiculous but if someone like Okiku is hot enough it's okay for them to be trans. Kinda of make it seems like a reoccurring theme where these things aren't random.

Ask and You Shall Receive: A Journey to Financial Healing through Etsy Shaina Tranquilino February 13, 2024
In the vast expanse of the universe, there's a saying that goes, "Ask and you shall receive." For many, this phrase might seem like a hopeful expression rather than a tangible reality. However, for me, the power of asking and the subsequent manifestation of support became a life-changing experience.
The Journey:
It was a time of financial strain for me, as I had recently made a significant payment to clear off my student loans. The burden of that substantial transaction left a noticeable hole in my pocket, and I found myself yearning for a lifeline. In moments of vulnerability, I turned to the universe and asked for financial support.
Little did I know that the universe had its own plans for answering my plea. January 2024 became a turning point in my life as over 500 sales poured in, and the positive momentum continued even after I had to pinch myself in disbelief. The conduit for this unexpected surge of support? Etsy – a platform that not only facilitated financial recovery but also opened the doors to a new chapter in my professional journey.
The Etsy Blessing:
Etsy, the renowned online marketplace for handmade and unique items, became the unexpected hero in my story. It turned out to be the bridge that connected my request for financial support with a community of individuals seeking distant energy healing sessions.
Gratitude overflowed as orders flooded in, each one representing not just a transaction but a gesture of faith and support from those who resonated with my offerings. The Etsy platform not only provided a means for me to share my skills but also became a hub of connection, healing, and prosperity.
Reaching New Heights:
As the sales continued to climb, so did my ranking on Etsy. A surreal moment came when I realized I had achieved the status of being the #1 distant energy healer on the platform. It was not just a personal victory but a testament to the power of manifestation, community, and the unforeseen opportunities that can arise when one dares to ask.
Acknowledging Support:
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported me during this transformative period. Each order, every word of encouragement, and the positive energy shared through distant energy healing sessions contributed to my journey of getting back on my feet.
The journey from financial strain to becoming the #1 distant energy healer on Etsy was a testament to the adage, "Ask and you shall receive." In my case, the universe responded through the platform of Etsy, connecting me with a supportive community that helped me not only overcome financial challenges but also achieve remarkable professional milestones.
This experience serves as a reminder that sometimes, in moments of vulnerability, reaching out and asking for help can lead to unexpected and incredible outcomes. The universe, it seems, is always ready to respond to those who dare to seek support and embrace the opportunities that come their way.

Is the English teacher good? I believe in bja supremacy but the trailer made it look like very standard sitcom humor
it's honestly pretty solid! i would say it's more toned down than caleb gallo and they're doing something a bit closer to sitcom-brand pseudorealism but a lot of the signature stuff (odd/unnatural-sounding dialogue, the camera work during conversations, the visual gags, the casual absurdism, etc) is still there. i do think that it's not hitting the sort of pat heartwarming triumph beats that i would expect from a standard sitcom with the same premise, and there's a lot of interest in exploring sort of casual self-absorption which has always been an interesting aspect of the characters bja writes/plays. i think it's worth trying out an ep or two and they are only 20 minutes! and his take on what's funny about being gay in sort of a modern american context has always been a lot more interesting and resonant to me than 99% of other "gay comedy" writing
#i have actually a lot of thoughts about the development of a sort of mainstream gay sitcom vocabulary#i do think that english teacher is subject to some of those same pressures due to just the nature of being a prime time network sitcom#but i think it does a decent job of walking that line between having a distinct creative identity and being marketable enough to succeed#it did feel recognizably like it's written for the same sort of audience as caleb gallo#it just also has some slightly easier access points for people who might need to be eased in to his style#anonymous#ask and receive

Will Rebel Blade be the finale to the Burnished City series, or will it continue past a trilogy?
This is it! The big finish!
Not that everything is utterly wrapped up, because life continues, that's partly the point. But REBEL BLADE is going to wrap up the story of Siyon, Anahid and Zagiri, and indeed of the city of Bezim. (I have no specific plans at the moment, but I might come back to the wider world later. There's a lot of fun things - in the Khanates, in the North, and especially in the New Republic - that I never got the chance to really dig into. But those are very much Other Stories.)
So if you've been waiting for a complete story, yes! This is it! You can get started now! :)

hey!! due to possible embarassment im going anonymous so i dont out myself as the most borderline obsessive ruby/nan quest fan out there
but have you ever had a phase where youve tried to coax your friends/mutuals in an attempt to fill up the empty community while also commissioning related content in some desire to experience something new cause not a lot of people make new stuff for rq and nq anymore graah
Sorry for letting this one sit for a few weeks, my laptop still isn't fixed yet. Also this is THE place to be extremely borderline obsessive about stuff, even though claiming to be "the biggest RQ fan" means you now have to fistfight me for rights to the title.
I've definitely "coaxed", but in more of the passive "hey look at this cool thing" and talking about it semi-frequently in "talk about media you like" spaces and stuff. Which has been semi-successful, everyone I chat with at least knows about those quests and has prolly read them. And I don't think I've ever tried to commission anything unfortunately.
Also yeah, I know what you mean in terms of not a lot of stuff happening. Which I imagine is for a couple of reasons.
RQ ended roughly 15 years ago, and NQ 9 years ago, so we're a bit (fashionably) late to when it was active.
Speaking of activity, being heavily interactive and mystery-themed, the blood would be pumping most when people were still asking questions, finding answers, and Doing Stuff. Some questions are still open to ask about, and things to talk about, and excitement for Really Good Media never dies, but still.
Adding onto THAT, the majority of the activity for both were on 4chan and questden, neither of them traditional or very well known forms of social media (except the former, but it's not "popular"), and neither very conducive to long-term content or "fandom".
And finally, "quests" have always been niche to my understanding, so a specific quest would be twice-over.
It's a lot of numbers but the math still adds up to "not that much activity". Or at the very least it's occasional. Still cool as hell when it pops up. Regardless, my preferred coping mechanism is in Adjacency. Weaver's done other quests, and Dive Quest is still ongoing (it's being updated right now as I type). He's also done other non-quest work, like Boxdog or Pack Street or whathaveyou (all really good). And there's also a lot of other good quests on questden made by other creators. Re-reading DiveQuest, I suddenly remembered Knight Blades was meant to be an official story running in parallel, and while I somehow did not yet read Knight Blades specifically yet (super Getting Distracted powers GO), I did go through Reaver's other catalogue of works, which has been an interesting and somewhat tumultous experience.
And regardless of anything, we still have some of the OG shooters running around. fyeahrubyandnanquest was active as late as 2021 (and still has stuff I haven't seen or reblogged yet), and I don't know if you've ever heard of them (;D) but someone called rubysvn has a fansite up with all sorts of goodies like an old RQ remake, information on lost media, and so on. So it's definitely a low energy sort of fandom, but nowhere near a dead one.
#oh no renardie is posting#ask and receive#long post#this was a bit rambly but i have been thinking about this exact thing

Do you have a singular like Big Favorite song from Those Poor Bastards? I couldn't choose. For a while it would've definitely been I cannot Escape The Darkness/God's Dark Heaven. But I've since moved on (very loosely used) and found out like you said SO many other good songs exist. I think right now my answer would be tied between: Glory Amen, He Of Cloven Hoof, My Last Dollar, Family Graveyard, and technically The Hellbound Train because there's no way for me to choose just one song
Oughhh those are all so good!! Glory Amen especially that’s up there for me as well. It really is impossible to pick just one song……… I wanna say my absolute all time favorite is maybe A Robe of Scarlet Thread, it’s the most fun to sing along to next to Crooked Man, that one is great too… still I hesitate to claim them my big favorites though because Heap Bad Medicine and I Want To Disappear also exist. And recently I’ve re-fallen in love with The Dust Storm! And obviously I also love The Minister’s Doom… Okay. Top five right now, A Robe of Scarlet Thread, Heap Bad Medicine, The Dust Storm, All Dolled Up, and Hound’s Bone. I think those’re what I always come back to thinking about favorites

Indeed I can. I think my highest record is 7 skips? Roughly? I can't do it every time, but sometimes I find a good, smooth, flat rock I'm able to find luck in
